Data Standards
Our commitment: every data point on Matchex has a source, a timestamp, and an owner.
Matchex covers 306 entities across public companies, sports franchises, M&A transactions, media rights deals, and institutional investors. This page explains exactly how our data is sourced, how often it’s updated, what you can rely on — and where the limits are.
Data Reliability Tiers
Criteria: Pulled automatically from a licensed third-party API on a defined schedule. Self-healing: if a fetch fails, the pipeline retries and logs the failure.
Examples: End-of-day equity prices, financial fundamentals (P/E, market cap, revenue), news headlines.
Criteria: Manually researched from a single authoritative primary source, with the source name, URL, and as-of date recorded per entity.
Examples: US franchise valuations (Forbes annual list), F1 team valuations (Sportico), verified M&A deal terms (SEC filings, press releases).
Criteria: Compiled from multiple secondary sources by Matchex's research pipeline. High confidence but not verified against a single definitive primary source.
Examples: Institutional investor profiles, private equity portfolio holdings, international franchise valuations where no single authoritative source exists.
Criteria: Generated from AI synthesis of publicly available information. Used only where no primary or secondary source exists. Directional, not definitive.
Examples: Valuation estimates for smaller private companies, deal terms not publicly disclosed.

International Franchise Valuations
Deloitte Football Money League, KPMG Football Benchmark, Sportico, press coverage
~96 international franchises; ~65% source-attributed

SEC filings, company press releases (primary); Sports Business Journal, Reuters (secondary)
153 deals on platform

Media Rights Deals
Sports Business Journal, official league announcements, company IR filings
41 deals
As announced; reviewed quarterly
Tier 2 — Source-Attributed
Annual value calculations for multi-year deals divide total deal value by contract length. Expired contracts are flagged.
Institutional Investors
Company websites, SEC 13D/13G filings, LinkedIn, press coverage
138 investors; AUM figures for ~80%
Quarterly
Tier 3 — Research-Derived
AUM figures can lag actual AUM by 6–12 months and should be treated as directional.

229 US-listed companies
Daily (weekdays, 6:00 AM UTC)
Tier 1 — API-Verified
Insider buys, sells, awards, exercises, and dispositions are pulled directly from SEC EDGAR Form 4 XML filings. Transactions are deduplicated by accession number and matched to Matchex companies by ticker. Available to Pro and Enterprise subscribers.

Press coverage of funding rounds, M&A transactions, investor disclosures
63 private companies; ~35% have a documented valuation source
